Food Pyramid

The food pyramid has been around for quite a long time and it needed a change to be updated for the times that we live in. The American Government has eventually got rid of the old food pyramid and replaced it with the new food pyramid.  The food pyramid is updated usually about once every five years, the last update was in 2005. There are more of these people in the Western world than there ever were. It seems that people are getting further and further away from true nutrition in favor of fast food and a lazy lifestyle. I am all in favor of convenience food but it should be in the fast food taken from the healthy category. There is no need for flavorsome food to have the nutritional value of a cardboard box combined with massive empty calories. The food pyramid is a healthy way to make sure that you are eating well. The new pyramid is giving you not only the types of foods that you should be eating but the correct amounts of foods that you should be eating as well. It is also telling you that you need to have plenty of exercise.

The new food pyramid is going to be a fantastic resource for anybody to has even a modicum of interest in looking after themselves. I think that the changes that have been made will not only give you the impetus to eat the right amounts of food, and get the right amounts of exercise. For instance it recommends that you get at least 30 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous exercise. It even goes into detail about what characterizes moderate exercise and watch characterizes the vigorous exercise. It is by far healthier food pyramid than the USDA food pyramid of old. You can also get the food pyramid as a children’s food pyramid, the Kindergarten food pyramid, the Irish food pyramid, the German food pyramid, actual fact the food pyramid can be made adaptable to any cultural diet.

It is extremely important that people follow the advice that is imparted by the food pyramid. You can get into contact with the US Department of Agriculture and they will send you a copy of the food pyramid which you can pin to your kitchen wall, stick on your fridge, put a new children’s bedroom wall, which will give you a visual guide to what you should be eating every day. Follow the food pyramid so that you are always having a healthy diet.

Children’s Food Pyramid

Children’s food pyramid is just a slightly different version to the adults food pyramid. The food pyramid itself has been around since 1992. The original food pyramid was designed to give people the right nutritional information. It was decided to do this because there seem to be an alarming increase in diseases caused by lack of proper nutrition and bad diets. In 2005 the United States Department of Agriculture released one food pyramid for adults and a children’s food pyramid.

The children’s food pyramid, or the new food pyramid for kids, makes the assumption that adults and children have different nutritional requirements. Children must have different levels of nutrition in order that they grow up to be strong and healthy. This is because growing bones, growing bodies, need much more specific requirements.

The difference with the children’s food pyramid is that the amounts of each food group that a child should eat are not the same. Food pyramid children are advised to eat more fruits and vegetables and whole grains than any other food group, and that she the top food group, the oils and sweets, should be only taken in minimal amounts. One of the great things about the kids food pyramid is that talks about having different colored foods every day. There is also a more graphic representation of the amounts of foods in that the sections for say meat and protein (the purple section) and oils and sweets (yellow) are a lot narrower than the other sections. This is to graphically show that there is less need of these types of foods that say fruit and vegetables. The colored stripes of the health food pyramid are also widely the bottom in order to tell the children that they should be eating more of the foods that are placed at the bottom of the pyramid.

It is hoped that with the children’s food pyramids that children will look at these changes as being very positive. It is also not expected that children should change their habits overnight but that they should take it one step at a time so hopefully they will be changing one little aspect of their diet and exercise routine every day by looking at the kid food pyramid. It is hoped that this will also encourage children to try and get their adult relations to alter their exercise and diet routines also. At least we know that with the modern-day children’s food pyramid that each child has access to a graphical representation of what they should be eating for good health. Not all children are going to follow this of course but if we can change the minds of some of our children and teenagers then perhaps it will not be long before everyone is eating a healthy diet.
