French Food Pyramid

The French food pyramid would be much like the USDA food pyramid. The food pyramid is a graphic representation of the foods that you should be eating from each food group. The French food pyramid is no exception to this. The French are known for their wonderful cuisine throughout the world. The ingredients that the French use in their cuisine are some of the most diverse in the world.  See above for the food pyramid graphic.  I know that the food pyramid chart is in french, I will try and replace this soon with an english language version.

The French food pyramid will be very similar to the original food pyramid that is used in the United States of America, the UK, and Ireland. It is a very healthy diet food pyramid.  At the bottom of the pyramid is the amount of grains, and the type of grains that you should be eating. The French tend to eat a lot of white bread and white bread products. The focus of the French food pyramid bottom shelf should be on whole grains instead of the more traditional white grain products. The next level up is fruit and vegetables. The French love their fruit and vegetables. Some of the common fruits include oranges, tomatoes, peaches, apricots, apples, pears, strawberries, blackberries, grapefruit, and black currants. Some of the more common vegetables on the French food pyramid include potatoes, carrots, turnips, aubergines, courgettes, shallots, mushrooms, and truffles. As with any healthy food pyramid, you should be eating between four and seven servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

The next section up is dairy products and meat. The French have some of the finest cheeses in the world. They produce well over one thousand fine cheeses. Some French cheeses are covered by a European union rule called the Protected Designation of Origin. Some of the more common meats on the French food pyramid would include chicken, turkey, goose, foie gras, beef, veal, pork, and mutton. A couple of the more unusual meats that the French would eat include horsemeat, frogs legs, and escargot (snails). As with our food pyramid chart, the French food pyramid recommends that you eat 2 to 3 servings of this layer. The final level is reserved for foods that you should be eating sparingly. This includes anything with sugar in it, fats (usually high cholesterol fats), and oils. If you choose to follow the French food pyramid then I am sure that you will enjoy everything that you eat. But you must cut down on some of the more unhealthy options that are available on the French food pyramid.  I wonder how different the food pyramid activities are?
